The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is a constituent unit of KIIT Deemed to be University . The institute has redefined the healthcare services in Odisha and in neighbouring states, anchored on a genuine desire to promote a healthy society and provide advanced medical care. The 2600-bed medical college and hospital made a humble beginning in 2007, and since then it has developed a distinct identity for itself – delivering quality treatment in its state of facilities at an affordable cost. The Medical College has 20 academic departments and 12 Super Specialty departments, each of which is well managed by acclaimed specialists and doctors who have made a name for themselves in their respective fields.
Broad Speciality
General Medicine
Patient care, academics & research are the mainstay of the Department of Medicine, which started in 2004 and has grown in leaps and bounds. There are 10 NMC approved MD seats and a fully equipped ICU with all life support systems.
Ophthalmology
The Dept aims to offer quality and affordable care to prevent vision loss and vision restoration. It provides outdoor patient services and 24X7 emergency services. It has produced about 80 research publications in various journals.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics offers medical education, care and support to women at every stage in their lives. The aim is to treat all obstetric and gynaecological health issues from pre-pubescent to menopause.
Community Medicine
It offers a holistic mix of community-based teaching and learning experience for MBBS and MD and has a legacy of taking up nationally acclaimed projects of UNICEF IMNCI. The Dept has 209 publications to its credit.
Anaesthesiology
The Dept acts as team Leader, managing pre-surgical procedures and post-operative follow-ups. It has produced 153 research publications in national and international journals.
Anatomy
One of the earliest departments to begin operations in 2007, the Dept is likely to be converted to an authorized embalming centre. The faculty members and students have so far published 10 research papers in international and national journals.
Biochemistry
The Dept is carrying out research work on diabetes mellitus, hypertension, oxidative stress, CKD, NAFLD, dyslipidemisa, even as the faculty has authored 151 research papers.
Paediatrics
The Paediatrics Department is counted among the best Departments in KIMS, delivering complete, comprehensive state-of-the-art health care services from birth to adolescence. It has a Level –III paediatric ICU, a first in Eastern India. Faculty members have contributed over 70 research papers and 20 are ongoing research projects.
Dermatology
Dept of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy has thrived and excelled on all the aspects including academics, research and patient care. It routinely attracts best talents across the nation through toughest NEET entrance examination. The Dept is a tertiary care centre for treatment of chronic skin diseases and has collectively published more than 480 research articles.
FMT
The mission of the Dept is to focus on the legal responsibilities of a physician, assist the judiciary with knowledge of medicine and train the medicos in handling medico-legal cases. The faculties have published 21 research articles.
General Surgery
Its services include general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, LASER and day-care procedures etc. Liver transplant and Robotic Surgery will be added to the list soon. The faculty and research scholars have published 49 publications.
ENT
The Dept surgeons have become the forerunners in surgical skills for better patient care. The Department conducts speech clinic and speech therapy, voice and swallowing therapy and has 28 publications so far to its credit.
Microbiology
The Dept is doing multidisciplinary clinical research comprising and is providing culture and sensitivity studies etc. It has completed 4 research projects and taken up 5 new ones
Pharmacology
The Dept has engaged in focused research, monitoring adverse drug reactions and providing information on new and established drugs. It has some 150 research articles published in national and international journals.
Pathology
The Department offers one of the best PG teaching courses in Pathology and impressive placement. Two legends of Pathology such as Dr R.N Mallik and Dr Ashim Dash conduct PG classes. The Dept has produced 160 research publications.
Respiratory Medicine
Its mission is to provide affordable world-class healthcare facilities, benefitting even the poorest of the poor. It has a state-of-the-art infrastructure for pulmonary investigations and procedures and has produced 30 publications.
Physiology
It aims to become a Centre of Excellence for functional diagnostic support and nurture collaborative research. The research laboratory is equipped with ultra-modern equipment and has got 141 research publications to its credit.
