The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides services like
- Diagnostic Upper G.I. endoscopy & Colonoscopy
- Very thin endoscope (paediatric endoscopy) for small children
- Therapeutic endoscopy like sclerotherapy, variceal banding, coagulation, hemoclip application to stop ongoing Gl bleeding
- Dilatation (widening) of narrowed food passage.
- Removal of small tumour by endoscope without surgery (polypectomy).
- Liver biopsy. [Both USG guided percutaneous liver biopsy & trans-jugular liver biopsy (TJLB)]
- Fibroscan [for noninvasive (painless) assessment of liver fibrosis]
- Breath tests for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and H pylori infection
- Enteroscopy (endoscopy of small intestine) to find out the cause of unexplained anemia, obscure GI bleeding, diarrhoea

- Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) for hepatic venous outflow tract obstruction, refractory variceal bleeding and refractory ascites in cirrhosis of the liver.

The Department has laid enhanced focus on research and publications. It has hosted the consensus meetings for Acute Liver Failure in April and July 2019. They were attended by liver experts across the country for formulating guideline for management of acute liver failure (ALF). The faculties of the department have published their research in peer review international and national journals.
