Overview

The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is a constituent unit of KIIT Deemed to be University. The institute has redefined the healthcare services in Odisha and in neighbouring states, anchored on a genuine desire to promote a healthy society and provide advanced medical care. The 2600 bedded medical college and hospital made a humble beginning in 2007, and since then it has developed a distinct identity for itself – delivering quality treatment in its state of facilities at an affordable cost. The Medical College has 20 broad speciality departments and 12 super speciality departments, each of which is well managed by acclaimed specialists and doctors who have made a name for themselves in their respective fields.

KIMS is the vision of KIIT and KISS founder Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta to offer quality healthcare that is accessible to all. The premier medical facility has grown from strength to strength over the years because of the unwavering support of doctors and countless staff passionate about the cause.

Founder

Prof. Achyuta Samanta

Prof. Achyuta Samanta is an educationalist, philanthropist, humanitarian, socio-entrepreneur, policymaker and a writer. He is the founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), both educational institutions of global repute and recognition. KIIT is an Institution of Eminence and one of the most prominent universities in India and the globe for professional education having more than 30,000 students from all over India and 65 other countries.

He has humbly contributed to transforming the lives of more than 60,000 indigenous children directly and millions indirectly through his dedication to eradicate suffering and promote peace by establishing KISS. Besides education, Prof. Samanta has made contributions in the field of Women Empowerment, Rural Development, Tribal Upliftment, Art, Culture, Literature, Media and Television and Spiritualism. He has been conferred with more than 50 International and National awards and over 200 state awards besides the two highest Civilian Awards from the Royal Kingdom of Bahrain and Mongolia.

As a social reformer, he has been propagating “Art of Giving” (philosophy of life), a concept aimed at bringing peace and happiness around the globe, Kanyakiran to promote zero-tolerance against gender-based violence, Education for all for creating awareness on the importance of Education and many more like New Mind, New Dreams, India Against Negativity, Art of Appreciation to name a few. Despite all his achievements, he leads a simple lifestyle in a two-room rented apartment as a bachelor.

Dr. (Prof.) Ram Chandra Das, AVM

Professor Ram Chandra Das is the Medical Superintendent of the KIMS, Bhubaneswar. He is a well known Psychiatrist and is associated with various health universities.

  • Graduate from MKCG Medical college and Post graduate in Psychiatric from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.
  • Undergone two-year PDF course in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from NIMHANS.
  • He was Professor and examiner at various health universities like, Maharashtra University of Health Science, West Bengal University of Health Science, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and Delhi University.
  • Expert for National Board of Examination and question setter for various national level entrance examinations.
  • Associated with WHO project- expression 2001 which was associated with life skill training for various students of school at Delhi and Jodhpur.
  • After superannuation from defence service, he worked as Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatric at KIMS Hospital.
  • Subsequently, he became the Vice-Principal and then appointed as the Medical Superintendent of the multi-speciality hospital.

Prof. Dr. Ambika Prasad Mohanty

Prof. (Brig) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, VSM is serving as the Dean & Principal of KIMS. A recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), he was instrumental in setting up dedicated COVID hospitals in several places in Odisha.

  • Alumnus of SCB Medical College where he passed his MBBS and received with Gold Medal.
  • Joined CGHS Delhi through UPSC, worked in AIIMS New Delhi before joining Armed Forces Medical Services as a career.
  • MD in Medicine from Armed Forces Medical College under Pune University.
  • Trained in Cardiology from Escorts Hospital New Delhi and Gastroenterology from PG Hospital Kolkata.
  • Served in Armed Forces Medical Services in different capacities of Faculty in Medicine, Examiners for MBBS, MD, DNB and administrative jobs for 34 years.
  • Commanded a Military Hospital in North-East and Deputy Commandant of a Command Hospital in J&K in CIOPS.
  • Deputed to Govt of Mizoram and served as Physician to Governor from 1992-95.
  • Took premature retirement as a Brigadier in 2013 to serve AIIMS Bhubaneswar as the Founder Medical Superintendent.
  • Joined KIMS as Professor of Internal Medicine in 2015. Later, he headed the Department and during this tenure the MD Course was launched.
  • He also worked as the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

Dr (Prof) Shubhransu Patro is the Associate Dean & Vice Principal of KIMS. He is a Professor in Medicine.

  • As NBEMS appraiser, conducted NEET PG examination.
  • Speaker in many C.M.Es, state and national conferences.
