Overview
The Department of Biochemistry at KIMS has 10 teaching faculties, who manage three major basic responsibilities i.e. Teaching, Research and Diagnostics services. The department has an under-graduate laboratory and a research laboratory for post-graduate research and teaching, research by other faculty and collaborative research by post-graduate students/ faculty of other departments. The PhD course is approved by KIIT Deemed-to-be-University. While the areas of research are Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Oxidative stress, CKD, NAFLD, Quality Control, Dyslipidemisa, the faculty members have authored 151 research papers which were published in national and international journals.
Services Provided
- Biochemistry Division in the Central Laboratory of KIMS is highly equipped with instruments like high throughput autoanalysers, Electro-chemiluminiscence analyser, semi analyser, Electrolyte analysers, semi-automated electrophoresis apparatus, dedicated HPLC for HbA1C etc. and most of the parameters are NABL accredited, which ensures quality diagnostic services. TAT (Turn-around-time) of most of the tests are within acceptable range and urgent need of the patients is also entertained by running stat reports. About a thousand samples are processed per day on an average.

Research/Publications/Awards
While the popular areas of research and publication by Faculty members of Department of Biochemistry at KIMS include Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Oxidative stress, CKD, NAFLD, Quality Control and Dyslipidemisa, the entire team has so far published 151 articles in various National and International journals. While Prof Dr Viyatprajna Acharya has two published patents and two more filed, have got an ICMR Grants for research and won two awards in biochemical research. The Department had organised Biochemistry CME on “Quality service in Laboratory Diagnostics’’ on September 25, 2021.
