Overview
Department of Neurology’s Epilepsy Clinic at KIMS, which runs every Thursday for comprehensive epilepsy care, is the first of its kind in Odisha. Sleep lab with polysomnography for all sleep disorders also helps many patients. It has its own 24X7 Neuro OPD for brain stroke patients, Neuro Ward for inpatients and ICU for all critical neuro cases. The KIMS Neurophysiology lab has also started one-year Diploma courses in Neurophysiology. Faculties from the Neurology Department have started research on stroke focussing on cognitive impairment in post-stroke and in young stroke cases with collaboration of other clinical departments. Fifteen research papers have been published in different journals by its faculty.
Services Provided
- The Department is equipped with all advanced diagnostic facilities especially neuro imaging, neuro physiological tests and all laboratory investigations. It has its own 24X7 Neuro OPD for brain stroke patients, Neuro Ward for inpatients and ICU for all critical neuro cases. The KIMS Neurophysiology lab has also started one-year Diploma courses in Neurophysiology under KIIT University.
- While the Epilepsy Clinic runs every Thursday for comprehensive epilepsy care, the availability of Botulinum toxin injection for Blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm and dystonia is also provided to patients.
- It has advanced laboratory with facilities for all blood, CSF and neuro immunological tests, Neuroimaging facilities with all modern imaging methods and Advanced Neurophysiology lab with facilities for Nerve Conduction Studies, Electromyography (EMG), Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS) and Visually Evoked Potential (VEP) for all neuromuscular diseases are available at the Department.
- Sleep lab with polysomnography for all sleep disorders, facilities of Fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for all neuro ophthalmological cases and Neurorehabilitation facilities with all modern amenities are available.
Research/Publications/Awards
Faculties from the Neurology Department have started research on stroke focussing on cognitive impairment in post stroke and in young stroke cases with collaboration with other departments like Physiology and Internal Medicine. A total of 15 research papers have been published in different national and international journals.
Important days like World Stroke Day, Epilepsy Day and Purple Day are celebrated in the Department to create awareness.
Besides, seminar and training of Emergency physicians and nurses on Thrombolysis treatment for acute ischemic stroke, especially how to identify symptoms and to reduce door to needle time by activating stroke code and public awareness programme were organised.
