Prof. Subrat Kumar Acharya
Pro-Chancellor and Professor in Gastroenterology
Prof. Subrat Kumar Acharya, Padma Shree Awardee, Pro-Chancellor and Professor in Gastroenterology joined the KIIT DU in 2016. He is Professor Emeritus of AIIMS New Delhi where he headed the department of Gastroenterology for a long time.
Awards and recognitions
- He was awarded the “Padma Shree” by Govt of India in the year 2014.
- Prof Acharya is a recipient of several other honours such as S R Naik Oration award, Dr Madangopalan Oration award by the Indian National Association for the study of Liver (INASL)
- He also received the PN Chuttani Oration award by Indian Society of Gastroenterology (2009), V I Mathon and Mini Mathan Oration award by CMC Vellore.
- He has received Fellowship from Indian Academy of Sciences (FIAS), National Academy of Sciences of India (NASI) leading to FASC, J C Bose Fellowship award by Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India.
- He has also received the Ranbaxy Science Award by Ranbaxy Science foundation.
- He was conferred the Biju Patnaik Award by Odisha Vigyan Academy. He is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the ISG & INASL.
Research and publications:
- Prof Acharya has published more than 320 papers; 10 editorials in prestigious international journals like Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Journal of Hepatology, Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, J of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
- He has written about 50 book chapters in various textbooks.
- He has been past president of the INASL and ISG. He has been one of the editors in Liver International, Journal of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Tropical Gastroenterology.
- He has special research interest in Liver diseases, particularly in the area of Acute liver Failure, Acute on Chronic liver Failure, Primary liver Cancer, Hepatitis A,B,C,E Virus infections, some of which provided new knowledge in the specific areas.
