Prof (Brig) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, VSM
Dean & Principal, KIMS
Prof (Brig) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, VSM is serving as the Dean & Principal of KIMS. A recipient of the Visistha Seva Medal (VSM), he was instrumental in setting up dedicated COVID hospitals in several places in Odisha.
Academics:
- Alumnus of SCB Medical College where he did his MBBS with Gold Medal.
- Joined CGHS Delhi through UPSC, worked in AIIMS New Delhi before joining Armed Forces Medical Services as a career.
- MD in Medicine from Armed Forces Medical College under Pune University.
- Trained in Cardiology from Escorts Hospital New Delhi and Gastroenterology from PG Hospital Kolkata.
Positions held:
- Served in Armed Forces Medical Services in different capacities of Faculty in Medicine, Examiners for MBBS, MD, DNB and administrative jobs for 34 years.
- Commanded a Military Hospital in North-East and Deputy Commandant of a Command Hospital in J&K in CIOPS.
- Deputed to Govt of Mizoram and served as Physician to Governor from 1992-95.
- Took premature retirement as a Brigadier in 2013 to serve AIIMS Bhubaneswar as the Founder Medical Superintendent.
- Joined KIMS as Professor of Internal Medicine in 2015. Later, he headed the Department. Subsequently, he worked as the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
Awards and recognitions:
- Visistha Seva Medal (VSM) by the Honorable President of India for devotion to duty.
- Fellow of Indian College of Physicians (FICP) and Diplomat of National Board of Examinations (DNB).
- During the COVID Pandemic, Prof (Brig) Mohanty managed the KIMS Dedicated COVID Hospitals of Govt of Odisha in Bhubaneswar, Baripada, Balangir and Phulbani.
- In 2021 during the second wave of COVID, KIMS was judged as the Best Private COVID Hospital of the country and the Healthgiri Award was given by Dr. Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya the Minister of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi.
- Contributed 50 articles in national and international journals on editorials, original papers, case reports, chapters in books.
- Presented 48 papers in several conferences.
