Overview

Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is a proud constituent of the educational conglomerate KIIT Deemed to be University, which is NAAC accredited A++. Located in an eco-friendly, Wi-Fi campus, KIMS comprises of a medical college, which is one of the largest in the state of Odisha. The 2600-bedded NABH accredited hospital with the medical college made a humble beginning in 2007 and since then it has developed a distinct identity for itself delivering quality treatment with state of art facilities at an affordable cost. The Medical College has 20 broad specialty departments and 12 super specialty departments, each of which is well managed by acclaimed doctors. KIMS has its own library housed in a five-storied building with latest editions of medical books and a state of art simulation lab ‘KAABEEL’.

It is ranked among the top 24 best medical colleges in the country in 2025 by the Education Ministry in the “National Institute of Ranking Framework” (NIRF) ranking. KIMS is in the rank of 501-600 in 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) “World University Ranking” in medicine category and among top 11 institutions in India. KIMS has received award for two categories including Excellence in faculty development and Research & innovation from Association of Health Care Providers (India)–AHPI in 2026.

KIMS was conferred with “Chief Minister’s Award” for excellence in healthcare Services in 2024. It has been honoured with The Economic Times Healthcare Awards 2024 as the “Ground breakers of the Indian Health Ecosystem.” KIMS has been recognised for its outstanding multi-specialty services in Orthopaedics and Diabetology. KIMS has been recognized at the Global Education Leadership Summit & Awards 2024 as the “Most Innovative Medical College and Hospital in India.”

KIMS offers MBBS course with an annual intake of 250 students and PG (MD/MS) Courses in various disciplines with 221 seats. Both the courses are recognized by the NMC. College has added superspecialty D.M./MCh. courses (42) in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Urology, Rheumatology, Critical care, Neonatology, Pediatric surgery and Plastic surgery. Currently 47 students are doing PhD in various disciplines. College also runs fellowship programs in Critical Care Medicine and Pediatrics.

The Pradyumna BAL Memorial Hospital (PBMH) provides high quality comprehensive healthcare with superspecialty and cancer centre and central lab, which is NABL, accredited. It offers super specialty services with state-of-the-art equipment for Nephrology, Cardiology & Cardiothoracic Surgery an exclusive Medical Oncology &Onco-surgery unit. There are also commendable advancements in the departments of Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, Urology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery, Endocrinology & Rheumatology, a state-of-the art Gastroenterology Centre, Pain and palliative care covering all treatment modalities. KIMS offers a comprehensive transplant program with dedicated units for renal, bone marrow, and liver transplants, providing advanced care for patients with kidney failure, blood cancers, genetic disorders, liver cirrhosis, and end-stage liver disease.Furthermore, a 24×7 Blood Bank makes sure that all medical and surgical management dependent on the blood and its components are never a pitfall in the treatment.

Prof. Achyuta Samanta

Prof. Achyuta Samanta is an educationalist, philanthropist, humanitarian, socio-entrepreneur, policymaker and a writer. He is the founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), both educational institutions of global repute and recognition. KIIT is an Institution of Eminence and one of the most prominent universities in India and the globe for professional education having more than 30,000 students from all over India and 65 other countries.

He has humbly contributed to transforming the lives of more than 60,000 indigenous children directly and millions indirectly through his dedication to eradicate suffering and promote peace by establishing KISS. Besides education, Prof. Samanta has made contributions in the field of Women Empowerment, Rural Development, Tribal Upliftment, Art, Culture, Literature, Media and Television and Spiritualism. He has been conferred with more than 50 International and National awards and over 200 state awards besides the two highest Civilian Awards from the Royal Kingdom of Bahrain and Mongolia.

As a social reformer, he has been propagating “Art of Giving” (philosophy of life), a concept aimed at bringing peace and happiness around the globe, Kanyakiran to promote zero-tolerance against gender-based violence, Education for all for creating awareness on the importance of Education and many more like New Mind, New Dreams, India Against Negativity, Art of Appreciation to name a few. Despite all his achievements, he leads a simple lifestyle in a two-room rented apartment as a bachelor.

Dr. (Prof.) Rama Chandra Das, AVM

Professor Rama Chandra Das is the Dean & Principal of  KIMS, Bhubaneswar. He is a well-known Psychiatrist and is associated with various health universities.

  • Graduate from MKCG Medical college and Post graduate in Psychiatric from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.
  • Undergone two-year PDF course in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from NIMHANS.

  • He was Professor and examiner at various health universities like, Maharashtra University of Health Science, West Bengal University of Health Science, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and Delhi University.
  • Expert for National Board of Examination and question setter for various national level entrance examinations.
  • Associated with WHO project- expression 2001 which was associated with life skill training for various students of school at Delhi and Jodhpur.
  • After superannuation from defence service, he worked as Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatric at KIMS Hospital.
  • Subsequently, he became the Vice-Principal and then appointed as the Medical Superintendent of the multi-speciality hospital.
