
Overview
The Department of Neonatology at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Bhubaneswar, is a specialized and critical care division dedicated to the medical needs of newborn babies. It is functional as a core component of a tertiary care hospital in Odisha where, the department plays a pivotal role in improving neonatal survival, promoting optimal growth and development and supporting families at the earliest and most vulnerable phase of life. We are committed to neonatal care particularly those who are premature, low birth weight or critically ill along with academic excellence and research-driven learning.
Services
- Newborn Stabilization and Resuscitation: Round-the-clock availability of trained professionals to handle neonatal emergencies and high-risk deliveries
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Equipped to provide Level II and Level III neonatal care with advanced life support systems including CPAP, NIPPV and mechanical ventilation.
- Management of High-Risk Newborns: Specialized care for conditions such as prematurity, respiratory distress, neonatal sepsis, congenital anomalies, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, PPHN and metabolic disorders.
- Point of care USG and ECHO: In-house USG machine with round-the-clock neonatal experts trained in POCUS available.
- High risk neonatal surgeries: All types of neonatal surgical services provided by highly experienced paediatric surgeons.
- Neonatal cardiac care: Specialised care for critical congenital heart disease in new-borns including cardiac interventions with 24/7 cardiac care.
- Follow-Up and Developmental Care: Post-discharge monitoring of high-risk infants, including neurodevelopmental assessments, early stimulation, nutrition, and immunization support.
- Retinopathy of prematurity: ROP screening and management done by ophthalmology specialists.
- Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) and lactation support to encourage maternal bonding and optimal breastfeeding.
- Family centred care
- Physiotherapy and occupation therapy services
- Periodic training modules are provided to Neonatal Fellows, post graduates, interns and neonatal nurses including basic and advance NRP, NIV, POCUS etc.
